Dr Helen Molden
Psychotherapist (accredited/registered), Psychologist (HCPC registered)
Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology
Biography
I am an HCPC registered counselling psychologist and UKCP integrative psychotherapist with over 25 years' experience supporting people of all ages in the NHS and wider community. Whether you are a child, parent or adult seeking support, my aim is to help by taking the time to listen to your story, and understand exactly where you need support. I use evidence-based psychological tools to come up with a formulation specific to what you bring and work together in suggestions for moving forward. My experience working in GP practices, hospital wards and charities has give me a breadth of expertise and enables me to work with complexity.
Therapy with a psychologist provides an opportunity to discuss you or your child’s emotions, thought patterns and behaviour with a highly trained professional who sits outside that situation.
As a psychotherapist, I can help you unpack complexities within your story in a therapeutic space that offers safety for questioning, considering different possibilities and creative exploration.
I work with a range of difficulties, such as:
- Stress arising from a change in routine or challenges at work/school/college
- Personal, family and relationship difficulties e.g. sibling conflict, friendship shifts, family estrangement
- Living with grief, loss or bereavement, including children who have lost a parent or live with ambiguous loss
- Challenges in managing a chronic physical illness, including living with chronic pain
- Women's health, from puberty, fertility, perinatal and (peri)meopausal mental health
- Difficulties from demands of parenting or being a carer
- Conflict or emotional dysregulation between children or adolescents and their parents/carers
- Depression, or low mood
- Anxiety, social anxiety, OCD, GAD, worry or feelings of panic
- Difficulties with self esteem, lack of confidence or imposter syndrome
- Trauma from a one-off event, or a complex history from childhood experiences
- Sleep problems from insomnia to early waking
- Trauma or anxiety around medical, dental or surgical procedures
The practice specialises in the intersection between mental and physical health across all ages from 5-99 years, with experience supporting people living with chronic conditions e.g. diabetes, MS, Chrohn’s Disease, fibromyalgia, IBS, tinnitus, migraines, neurological conditions and rare genetic diseases.
I use an integrative approach rooted in existentialism, tailored for each client including acceptance Commitment Therapy, Compassionate Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy for trauma, Play Therapy, Photo Therapy, and relational psychotherapy.
