PsyConnect WhatsApp Community Guidelines
The PsyConnect WhatsApp Community is a space for therapists and psychiatrists in our network to connect, share knowledge, check for suitability of other professionals for potential referrals and feel less isolated in private practice. It sits alongside the platform and is entirely voluntary to join. These guidelines keep the space useful, professional, and safe for everyone, and form part of the spirit of the Therapist Member Agreement: https://www.psyconnect.co.uk/therapist-agreement
The spirit of the space
This Community exists to make private practice feel less isolating. There is no expectation to reply quickly or to be constantly available. Mute groups freely, dip in when it suits you, and treat the space as a resource rather than another demand on your time.
Be kind and professional
Treat colleagues with the respect and warmth you would want in any professional setting. This is a professional space, and the way we speak here reflects on each of us and on PsyConnect. Disagreement is fine; it just needs to stay courteous.
Client confidentiality
The Community is also not a substitute for supervision. General questions are welcome, for example “does anyone work with X?” or “has anyone used Y assessment?”. Seeking advice on how to handle a live, specific case is not, and should go to supervision or peer supervision groups instead. Posting in the Client Matching group is a separate thing: there you can share a de-identified description of a client you are unable to take on, so you can find a colleague and/or know if there are colleagues who may be a good fit. That is matching rather than case advice, and it is welcome. All of this protects you, your clients, and the colleagues answering.
Keep conversations within the Community
Please do not screenshot or forward Community conversations outside the group. People share more openly when they trust the space is closed.
Referrals go through the platform
The Community is for conversation and for finding a good match/cheking that their are suitable therapists within the network. The referral itself always goes through the PsyConnect platform. When you find a colleague in the Client Matching group who is a good fit for a client you are unable to take on, please arrange the referral through the platform in the usual way. Please keep contact details and website links out of the group itself, whether your own or another therapist’s; these are exchanged through the platform once the referral is made. Where a referral is organised through a Community channel and then completed off-platform, that counts as system abuse under the PsyConnect Therapist Agreement. Going through the platform is how the referring therapist receives their 50% share, and how the network stays sustainable for everyone. Making the referral means submitting your client’s details on the platform, so you will need their informed consent before you do this.
Sharing resources and events
Sharing a useful CPD event, article, or resource is welcome and is part of what makes the Community valuable. Please do not use the groups to repeatedly promote your own paid services, courses, or unrelated ventures.
Which group to post in
At launch there are three groups. PsyConnect Announcements carries platform updates, meetups, and highlights, with admin-only posting. Community Chat is for open conversation, peer questions, and practice talk. Client Matching is a space to find a colleague, or check whether there are suitable therapists, when you have a client you are unable to take on yourself. Community Chat and Client Matching are both open for members to post in. As the Community grows, more groups may be added.
Proposing a new group
We want the Community to feel manageable, with active groups that are easy to engage with. So, a new group needs three things: a clear topic, someone willing to champion it and keep it going, and a couple of other members who would join. Message an admin with the proposed name and the colleagues who would join, and we will set it up. If you would like, we can make you an admin of the new group.
Admins and moderation
The Community is administered by Francisco and Ruth. Admins may remove content, or in rare cases a member, where these guidelines are seriously or repeatedly breached. We would always rather have a quiet word first, and expect that to be all that is ever needed.
Joining and leaving
Taking part is voluntary. You can mute any group, leave any group, or leave the whole Community at any time. None of this affects your membership of the PsyConnect platform.
